Modeling Local Context for Pitch Accent Prediction

چکیده
Pitch accent placement is a major topic in intonational phonology research and its application to speech synthesis. What factors in uence whether or not a word is made intonationally prominent or not is an open question. In this paper, we investigate how one aspect of a word's local context | its collocation with neighboring words | in uences whether it is accented or not. Results of experiments on two transcribed speech corpora in a medical domain show that such collocation information is a useful predictor of pitch accent placement.

Context in Multi-lingual Tone and P
Tone and intonation play a crucial role across many languages. However, the use and structure of tone varies widely, ranging from lexical tone which determines word identity to pitch accent signalling information status. In this paper, we employ a uniform representation of acoustic features for recognition of both Mandarin tone and English pitch accent. The representation captures both local to...
متن کاملPitch accent prediction: effects of genre and speaker
To build a robust pitch accent prediction system, we need to understand the effects of speech genre and speaker variation. This paper reports our studies on genre and speaker variation in pitch accent placement and their effects on automatic pitch accent prediction. We find some interesting accentuation pattern differences that can be attributed to speech genre, and a set of textual features th...

Abstract: This research has been carried out in the framework of Auto segmental-metrical (AM) phonology to study the stress in Persian. Two types of abstract and concrete prominences were distinguished in which the first one refers to the stress and the second one refers to the pitch accent. Stress is assumed to be a lexical property of the lexemes, but pitch accent is assumed to be an intonati...
متن کاملModeling Pitch Accent Curves
Segmental factors can cause large temporal changes in local pitch contours associated with accented syllables (“accent curves”), but these changes are often not phonologically or perceptually significant. Yet, other factors can cause temporal changes that are smaller but nevertheless significant. We propose a model according to which accent curves are (phonologically, perceptually) equivalent w...
متن کاملAutomatic Prosodic Labeling with Conditional Random Fields and Rich Acoustic Features
Many acoustic approaches to prosodic labeling in English have employed only local classifiers, although text-based classification has employed some sequential models. In this paper we employ linear chain and factorial conditional random fields (CRFs) in conjunction with rich, contextually-based prosodic features, to exploit sequential dependencies and to facilitate integration with lexical feat...
